Ed Darrell, Dave’s antagonist, Dave, the great admirer of the cuckold, but Ed comes to the rescue of science, in particular biology, lest it collapse as a consequence of the disbelief of evolution.
In the comments to Lysenko’s Legacy, Ed says,
Immediately we notice the Lysenkoist tactic of trying to separate genetics from biology, genetics from evolution, and evolution from biology.
Go back and review Dobzhansky’s note that evolution is the binding framework of all the rest of biology, that “nothing makes sense” in biology, except in the light of evolution.
Science doesn’t need to be bound together by any ideology. Science is. Science doesn’t have to make sense. Science is. Believe or don’t believe in evolution, and nothing will change about what is.
On the other hand, don’t believe that a microwave oven needs electricity, and your food will stay cold.
It’s the difference between beliefs about the past and beliefs about the present. All claims about the long past are based upon the recent present. That’s why, from a technical perspective, it makes no difference what you believe about the past.
